Alternative entry pathways

The Faculty of Science and Engineering offers a number of unique alternative entry pathways and courses to help you even if you don’t think you meet all the entry requirements.

Bachelor of Science (Multidisciplinary Science)

Students who meet the Entry requirements to the Multidisciplinary Science major, may enrol in units to facilitate entry into another Science or Engineering course of their choice.

Engineering Pathway

This pathway is designed for those students who meet Curtin’s entry requirements and wish to take up an Engineering degree but do not meet the prerequisites or admission requirements. Students apply for the Bachelor of Science (Multidisciplinary Science) degree and select appropriate units. Students hoping to improve their ATAR will need to enrol in 100 credits and achieve a Semester Weighted Average of >65%.

Medical Radiation Sciences Pathway

Students requiring Mathematics or Physics for entry into Medical Radiation Sciences may apply for Bachelor of Science (Multidisciplinary Science) degree. Heath science core units may also be selected to give a minimum enrolment of 75 credits. Note that this course is competitive and there is no guaranteed entry.

Enabling Course in Science and Engineering and Health

This Enabling Course for Science, Engineering and Health is a one year course that provides the background for students who do not meet the minimum university entrance requirements but wish to undertake studies leading to a degree in science, engineering or health. The course is taught in collaboration with Canning and Tuart Colleges. Students enrol through Curtin and have the same privileges as any Curtin student; but also enrol at Canning College or Tuart College, who provide the teaching in subjects such as maths, physics and chemistry.

Completing the Enabling Course can give you direct entry into Science and Engineering degree courses. Many Health Science courses are competitive, and entry will depend upon your performance and the current demand for that course. Note however that you are guaranteed a place in the Bachelor of Science, Multidisciplinary Science major.

Portfolio Entry

If you don’t meet the standard entry requirements you may be able to submit a portfolio that demonstrates you meet the prerequisites, but in an alternative way. You will need to provide an introductory letter, resume, evidence of your academic achievements, and letters of support stating your academic preparedness and aptitude.
