Travel grant to Dr Ori Gudes for GIS/health research project

A travel grant from Curtin’s Science and Engineering Faculty was put to good use by Department Research Fellow Dr Ori Gudes in May this year.  The funding enabled Ori to collaborate with colleagues at Flinders University and the University of South Australia in May to prepare for a project grant.

The group’s intended project involves the “Development and implementation of an index of accessibility to cardiac and stroke services: The Cardiac and Stroke Accessibility and Remoteness Index for Australia”.

The aim of the research partnership is to work with cardiac and stroke consumer representatives, geographical software providers and experts in health, geography and epidemiology to develop an understanding of the geographic dimensions of cardiac and stroke outcomes with a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, rural and remote and elderly populations.
