Mining and football thrills in Peru

In June 2014, ten Science and Engineering students travelled to Lima, Peru for a two week short-term mobility program hosted by Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP).

We arrived on the weekend of the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals and South America was buzzing with excitement!

In addition to visiting PUCP, students donned hard hats and reflective vests, gaining an understanding of the country’s mining industry by visiting an operational mining site.

“The program provided me with a truly once in a lifetime opportunity to experience Peruvian culture and learn about the country’s mining industry and the challenges and opportunities for the industry going forward. I made some fantastic new friends and also broadened my horizons in terms of where my future career as a geologist can take me – perhaps one day in the future it will be back to Peru! I would encourage all Science & Engineering students to consider applying to Short Term Mobility Programs. The two-week long program length is perfect and provides real insight into mining and resources internationally, along with an unforgettable cultural experience”
