Alternative Entry Pathways

Students

Worried you might not get into Curtin or weren't able to get into your course of choice? The Faculty of Science and Engineering offers a number of unique pathways and courses to help you.

Bachelor of Science (Multidisciplinary Science):

The Multidisciplinary Science major gives students the opportunity to combine rigorous study in more than one science discipline of their choice taken from areas such as biology, chemistry, computing, geology, mathematics or physics. The intention is to provide graduates with the skills to operate across the traditional boundaries of a single scientific discipline. The Multidisciplinary Science program can also be used as an alternative pathway for students who do not meet subject prerequisites for other courses in science and engineering. Within the 'Multi Science' degree program every opportunity is provided for a student to prove themselves - to improve their performance - and hence switch to the degree course of their choice.

Enabling Course in Science and Engineering:

This one year course provides the background for students who do not meet the minimum university entrance requirements but wish to undertake studies leading to a degree in science or engineering. The course is taught in collaboration with Canning College. Students enrol through Curtin and have the same privileges as any Curtin student and also enrol at Canning College, who provide the teaching in subjects such as maths, physics and chemistry. Completing the Enabling Course can give you direct entry into many Science and Engineering degree courses but entry is competitive, depending upon your performance and the current demand for that course. Note however that you are guaranteed a place in the Bachelor of Science, Multidisciplinary Science major. Within the 'Multi Science' degree program every opportunity is provided for a student to prove themselves - to improve their performance - and hence switch to the degree course of their choice. Engineering Pathway Course:

This course is designed for those students who meet Curtin's entry requirements and wish to take up an Engineering degree but do not meet the standard Engineering prerequisites or admission requirements. Students have the option to enrol in the Bachelor of Science (Multidisciplinary Science) degree. For students who have passed TEE Applicable Maths and one other prerequisite subject, this is a one-semester, full-time enrolment giving guaranteed entry into the first year Engineering program on successful completion of all units with a semester weighted average of 60% or better. Students with TEE Discrete Maths will require two semesters. Read more...
